How To Get More Subscribers With Dance Club Moves! February 18th, 2008

Any marketer or business owner worth their salt will tell you the money is in the list. If all your advertising partnerships disappeared tomorrow, would you still be able to keep your head above water? A lot of businesses would cringe at the thought of this. But then there are smart business owners like our subscribers that wouldn’t even flinch because they know they have a massive list of existing customers that they can tap into.  Hopefully you’re one of these smart business owners, because you’re going to find the following article very useful.

For the others, We’re not going to get into the mechanics of building a list and capturing the information. There are great services that handle this such as GetResponse.com which is found in our tools section. But nonetheless when you become up to speed with the technical aspect of list building,  this article will still prove useful.

So let’s get in to it. Most of us have been to a dance club at least once in our lives. I’m in my early 30’s so it’s not as appealing to me anymore. Actually by my late 20’s it had lost a lot of its appeal to me. I just didn’t want to be that 30+ year old dude in the club trying to seem cool and hitting on women that looked at me like I was in a walker and wearing adult diapers. If you’re that dude, my condolescences go out to you and your self respect.

In any event, one thing I always hated about the club was that whole waiting on line business. There were a few times where I didn’t have to do this because I was on that magical "List". We all know that list all to well, for better or worst. Have you ever been outside for over an hour in the rain and then some random people just head to the bouncer and tell them they’re on the list and presto, they’re in? I won’t lie, I was so mad at these people that you would’ve thought I had just taken a "Hate"orade bubble bath that night. It was really frustrating for the person on the other side of that cool line.

Everyone wants to be part of the cool list. We all have this high school mentality of wanting to be part of a popular crowd even when you lied to yourself and said that you didn’t. Deep inside you did. Well the visitors to your website have the same mentality. It’s not something we shake off as adults. We still want to be accepted and part of a crowd. So you as a blogger or content producer must play on this primal emotion.

How To Get People To Flock To Your List!

1. This goes without saying but you should always have a call to action on everything you write. Don’t just have a subscription box on your homepage and call it a day. You want that call to action at the end of every piece of content you write.

2. Make the call to action sexy though! When you go to a club you’re trying to look as "fly" as possible. Well most of us do. Your call to action should make your users feel like they’re missing out by not being part of your list. There has to be some unique selling proposition. After all you put a lot of effort in your ad copy, right? Well subscriptions are just as important as sales because they can lead to more of them if you manage your list properly.

3. Make reference to your cool subscribers in your actual content. Remember people are like sheep they want to be lead. So when writing content always make reference to your subscribers in a positive way and link to back to the subscription page. So for instance here’s a sentence you might use. "It amazes me how many people fall for that scam. But fortunately my subscribers already know how to spot these type of scams a mile away." I basically implied that my subscribers were smarter and thus cooler merely for the fact they’re on my list. It’s very easy to do this every time you write. In fact,  there shouldn’t be a time this isn’t employed in your articles or content.

By the way, I’m not only a client, I use these techniques in this and other blogs. If you re-read this article again, you’ll see exactly where I used tip #3. So if you treat your content like a dance club you’ll have people dying to get in but the difference is that you welcome them all.  Unlike the hottest dance club your users won’t have to grease the bouncer, get frisked or deal with a meat head’s delusional visions of grandeur.

Party is over, lights are on, now go back home and employ these techniques. And for God’s sake stay out the club. Aren’t you a bit too old for that?

How To Do Keyword Research With Google AdWords Tool February 14th, 2008

Writing great content is always argued as one of the best methods of search engine optimization used to rank top 10 in the Google search results. When people would tell me that, I would always think to myself, "What the F does that mean? That’s some old B.S.!"  Here’s what they really mean and don’t say about SEO. Writing great content, rich with highly focused keywords and phrases is what helps you rank top 10! Sometimes people get lucky and rank top 10 ignoring this principle. But that’s like winning the lotto or your chances of you dating a super model. Damn near impossible and highly unlikely! (No disrespect intended.)

You can’t build a business on getting lucky. You need a blueprint on how to write content that will get picked up by Google based on your effort and not some whim of chance. So we’ve decided to create a how to video on doing keyword research using Google AdWords External Keyword Tool. Keyword research is just a fancy phrase to describe the process of using tools on the internet to figure out what people are searching for. Search engines record this information and make it available to the public. Then some smart people take this information and write content related to it and hopefully will rank top 10. When discussing keyword research most people refer to word tracker which now offers a diet version of their full service keyword tool.

Word Tracker is definitely one of the best if not THE best resource for keyword research and I highly recommend it. But there are other tools that can be used in lieu of Word Tracker and Google AdWords keyword research tool is one to be considered but often ignored.

If you’re trying to rank high in Google, it just seems to make sense to use the data they provide. So with that said let’s take a look on how to use this free keyword tool.

What’s Covered In The Video

  • What Is Keyword Research?
  • Why Do Keyword Research?
  • What Are Long Tailed Keywords?
  • How To Get Higher Rankings Than Your Competitors!
  • How To Use Google AdWords Keyword External Tool For Content Development & Better Rankings!

What’s Not Covered In The Video

  • How To Win The Lotto or Date A Super Model.
  • Positive Thinking To Help You Rank Top 10.
  • Writing good content to magically rank well.

Now that we got that out the way and you know what to expect, let’s jump into the video. If you like the video, please let us know below and feel free to rate it on You Tube.

Images, The Secret To Improve Your Rankings & SEO Efforts! February 11th, 2008

Google has a universal search engine now. Basically what this means is depending on the search you conduct you’ll find websites, videos, news articles and images all mixed in the search results. Prior to this they separated the results by type. Universal search makes for a better experience for the users. But more importantly means it’s more ways for you to rank. We’ll focus on images for now.

Most people know the value of performing search engine optimization on a web page. Some people have wised up and gone beyond text and even started creating keyword optimized videos to help their rankings. But not many people are optimizing their images which is your golden opportunity.

Now I’ll be honest the images don’t come up a lot in the regular search results. But some do and the fact is more than ever people are using the image search feature on Google to find pictures related to searches. And no it’s not just naughty pictures, you pervert. There are a lot of people doing searches for products that they want to buy or are thinking about buying. When they do a search they often click on the image results like you do for a regular search. And guess what? Google often just links directly to the page that the image is on! What that translates into, is more targeted traffic to your website. It’s highly targeted because if someone is searching for a specific product image, it’s probably because they are in the latter stages of research and are ready to buy.

The Advantages of Ranking Using Images

  1. Additional traffic you would have never received.
  2. Less competition. Most website owners aren’t thinking about optimizing their images. They’re barely thinking about optimizing their pages. So that means you won’t have to worry about fighting them off like you do with PPC or even regular search engine optimization.
  3. It’s easier to rank high in image searches than it is for regular web page searches.  Because it’s under the radar you can easily optimize tons of images.

How To Optimize Images That Rank Well

Step 1: Be descriptive and name your images using the keywords they represent. If you have an image of a Sprint Palm Treo 700p. Then don’t name the image cellphone. Name it exactly what it is. The more keywords that really describe the image, the better chances of coming up in Google’s image search results at the top and possibly the regular search results as well. If you really want to take it up a notch you may want to do some keyword research using Word Tracker’s free tool.

Step 2.  Get a Google Webmaster account. Don’t worry it’s free.

Step 3. Submit A Sitemap.

Step 4. Verify you own the site.

Step 5. Enable the Image search feature.

The last step is very important. This will help Google easily find your images which should help them rank faster than having Google hunting them down on the worldwide web.

If you follow these steps you can take advantage of a back door way of getting more traffic to your site. It won’t be a lot but every little bit counts especially when it is highly targeted traffic of people in the right mind set ready to buy! By the way if you think I’m full of crap about this (and I’m highly offended that you might feel that way.) check out where Google admits to this.

Don’t say I never gave you anything! Cheers.

Stealing, Mom May Get Mad, But You’ll Write Headlines Like A Copywriter Expert! February 9th, 2008

Your article or blog post headline is like the cover of a book. People judge your whole article based on it. Sure your article may reveal the secret of life or how to become a millionaire instantly. But if your article title reads like an obituary then people will never actually read what you’ve written. You literally have several seconds to get their attention.

Your Supermarket Can Write Headlines For You!

So how do you write headlines that will pull your users in? Don’t! Just steal them from the best copywriters in the world! We’ve all been in the supermarket standing on line behind that lady that seems to be buying groceries as if she’s preparing for armageddon. It drives me crazy.

So I tend to occupy myself with the magazines and books that have been strategically placed around the counter. I would love to think that the magazines are placed in that location to help violent people like myself from busting slow customers in the head. But the real reason is that the space near the counter is one of the most valuable in the whole store because consumers are captive. They have no choice but to sit there and wait as other people get checked out by that annoyed teenage cashier.

The owners of these magazines are aware of this so they spend huge amounts of money hiring the best copywriters in the world to grab your attention in
seconds. How do I know it works? Because I don’t know anyone that has ever been to a supermarket that hasn’t picked up a magazine near the counter. I
would argue 90% of us do it.

It’s no coincidence. Those magazines whether it’s about women issues or Michael Jackson’s baby momma drama will pull you in. Most of the time in my regular life I would ignore those stories but on the check out line I get sucked in because I have nothing better to do. But I would also argue the real reason is because the headlines put you in a trance where you want to pick up the magazine to read. That’s just basic good copy writing. So let’s talk about how you can have the same effect.

5 Easy Steps To Create Winning Headlines Like The Pro’s

Step 1. Visit Magazine.com

Step 2. Select the magazines geared towards women like Cosmo or O.

Step 3. Click on the Magazine covers to enlarge them.

Step 4. Note which headlines immediately made you want to know more.

Step 5. Steal the headline and change it to fit your own topic.

That’s pretty much it. It’s really that simple. Sometimes just reading the headlines will give you topic ideas for your own industry. So now you have no reason
to create crappy headlines. The steps I’ve laid out can be followed by anyone in any industry. You just need to be a little creative but not much since the
copywriters did all the hard work for you. By the way,  if there is still any doubt that the titles are effective, just watch what you and others do at the check out
line next time you do your groceries.

My final tip, please ignore the temptation of smacking the bejesus out of the person in front of you on the check out line. Instead be productive and read those
magazine titles and stories, it may lead to greater readership and money for your site or blog!
